A proposal will go before the Pomona City Council tonight that calls for providing financial assistance to a production company interested in filming a movie in the city.
CMS Productions is seeking $13,225 for city business license fees for about 20 days of filming with in downtown for a movie preliminarily titled "Love, Barack," according to a city staff report.

Angelo's Pizzeria averted closure again.
City Council members voted early Tuesday to give the owner of Angelo's Pizzeria four weeks to meet a set of condition he agreed to comply with three months ago or face closure.
On a 5-2 vote, with Mayor Elliott Rothman and Councilman Steve Atchley voting in opposition, council members gave businessman Jason Abboud additional time to comply with the requirements in addition to lifting some restrictions set in October.

Rain or shine, the Pomona Christmas Parade will make its way this morning through the city's downtown.
The parade will begin at Second and Gibbs streets, travel west on Second, turn south on Park Avenue and conclude at Eighth Street and Park.
The following street closures will be in effect from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Pomona police officers on Tuesday morning hit the streets for the second day of the turkey giveaway to needy families.
"This is our way of thanking the people of Pomona for their vital community support," said Rob Baker, president of the Pomona Police Officers' Association.
"We will be providing 70 turkeys to families struggling to have a proper Thanksgiving meal."

MONDAY'S POMONA council meeting began with Mayor Elliott Rothman welcoming the audience with a smile and saying, "We've got a lot of fun stuff planned tonight."
He was referring to the swearing-in, plus cake, for the new police chief, Dave Keetle.
But perhaps he was also offering a prediction for the rest of the meeting.

Western Christian Schools' grand opening celebration at its new Upland campus on Sept. 17 marked a very important milestone.
It is the first time in 89 years that the high school has a permanent, owned campus facility.

Nine months after taking the helm of the Pomona Police Department on an interim basis, David Keetle has been appointed the city's new police chief.
Mayor Elliott Rothman made the announcement at Monday's City Council meeting after the council voted 6-0, with Councilwoman Cristina Carrizosa abstaining.
Keetle, who had been assistant chief since September 2006, took over as interim in December following the retirement of Joe Romero.

The state budget, its impact on local government and state term limits where among the topics addressed by local, state and federal elected officials during a luncheon event Wednesday.
The luncheon, held at the Sheraton Suites Fairplex and organized by the Pomona Chamber of Commerce, drew about 100 people and included the participation of Rep.
